چکیده
This paper investigates the predictions of Derivational Complexity Hypothesis by studying acquisition wh -questions in 4- and 5-year-old Akan-speaking children an experimental approach using elicited production imitation task. Akan has two types -question structures ( -in-situ -ex-situ questions), which allows investigation children’s these question their preferences for one or other. Our results show that adults prefer to use questions over questions. The from both age groups have linguistic repertoire. However, they differ usage task: while 5-year-olds preferred structure structure, 4-year-olds showed a selective preference who -questions. These findings suggest developmental change Akan-learning between 4 5 years with so far unobserved u-shaped pattern. In task, all strong tendency maintain in-situ ex-situ repeating grammatical When repairing ungrammatical questions, structural changes were hardly observed but insertion missing morphemes keeping structure. Together, our provide only partial support Hypothesis.

متن کاملWh-Questions\' Expression in Persian-speaking Children: A Comparison Between Spontaneous and Elicited Probes
Objectives: Studies have shown that most children before the age of 5 are capable to comprehend and express wh-questions in daily conversations. This study aimed at comparing the ability of wh-questions’ production in 4- to 6-year-old children in spontaneous and elicited conditions. Methods: In this descriptive-analytic study, 4- to 6-year-old Persian-speaking children (N = 72) were selected r...
متن کاملSeparating syntactic memory costs and syntactic integration costs during parsing: the processing of German WH-questions
Event-related brain potentials (ERPs) were recorded while participants processed case-unambiguous German subject and object WH-questions with either a long or a short distance between the WH-filler and its gap. A sustained left anterior negativity was observed for object questions with long filler-gap distance but not for short object questions. This negativity was modulated by individual diffe...
متن کاملThe comprehension and production of Wh-questions in deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
Hearing loss during the critical period for language acquisition restricts spoken language input. This input limitation, in turn, may hamper syntactic development. This study examined the comprehension, production, and repetition of Wh-questions in deaf or hard-of-hearing (DHH) children. The participants were 11 orally trained Hebrew-speaking children aged 9.1-12.4 with moderate-to-profound hea...
